Format Guide for Academic Applications


Please do not place applications in binders or plastic covers

Applicants are required to provide the following information in their applications. Typed applications are preferred.

Positions(s) applied for

  • Show clearly the position or positions applied for including level and reference number.
  • If applying for more than one position, show clearly your order of preference.

Personal data

Academic and teaching qualifications

  • Copies of certificates awarded for all cited qualifications must be provided with application. (Do not send original documents).
  • List all tertiary qualifications, showing the title of each qualification in full, the year completed, and the name of the institution attended.
  • It is essential to list all course units completed and to show level of passes achieved. A copy of official academic transcript must be supplied to indicate the level of scholarship achieved in all tertiary-level study.
  • List clearly any prizes or honours achieved.
  • Provide the title of any dissertation or completed.
  • Detail any courses (units) passed towards incomplete Post Graduate Studies, Degrees, Diplomas, etc. indicating year completed and grade awarded.
  • Specify current studies, institution and award and indicate expected completion date.

Statement of claims against the selection criteria

  • Address each selection criteria individually and provide substantiated claims as to how you meet the criteria.

Present position

  • Give a brief statement of the title, nature and scope of your present position, the date of appointment, and present salary.

Previous positions

  • Give a listing of all relevant positions in date order, commencing with the most recent (academic and non-academic) held since first being employed, showing the title, nature and scope of each position, the year appointed, and the length of service in each position.

Summary of teaching / tutoring experience

  • List number of years experience at each relevant level, for example, 10 years secondary, 1 year tertiary.

Other professional experience and / or consultancies

  • List any other relevant professional experience including performances, exhibitions, productions, etc.
  • Indicate major consultancies undertaken in the last five years stating nature of consultancy, company or organisation, country and year.

Active research and research interests

  • Current Active Research and Research Interests: Please show the expected date of anticipated outcomes.
  • Previous Research and Research Interests: Please describe outcomes (if not included under Publications).

Publications (clearly differentiated under the following headings)

Monographs. Unpublished Conference presentations.
Co-authorship (include names of other co-authors). Reference works such as encyclopaedia.
Chapters published in a book. Review articles of entire field of study.
Aricles published in Refereed Journals. Contracts and / or technical reports.
Conference papers published in proceedings. Other.

It is important that a consistent bibliographical style is used. For example:

Dynan, H. (1983). A quantitative study of city traffic patterns. Journal of Transport, 56 (1), 63-72.

Kiernan, B. (1976). The novels of Patrick White. In G. Dutton (Ed), The literature of Australia (rev. ed.) (pp. 461-484). Ringwood: Penguin. ISBN: 0-7294-0152-2.

Other academic contributions

  • Provide details of academic contributions other than publications, e.g. multi-media developments.

Professional qualifications

  • List all qualifications awarded by professional bodies.

Professional memberships

  • List all relevant professional memberships.

Current professional contributions

  • List all relevant data on active involvement in community, government, professional and voluntary organisations.

Proficiency in languages other than English

  • Describe level of proficiency as conversational and/or accredited course.

References

  • Attach copies of any relevant open references.

Referees

  • Give the names, addresses, facsimile number and e-mail (where available) of three persons from whom confidential reports may be obtained.

    Note:

    1. To avoid unnecessary demands on referees, reports will only be called for if the applicant is being given serious consideration for appointment.
    2. The University does not call for referee reports from members of the Selection Committee. Should one or more of the applicant's nominated referees be a Selection Committee member for the relevant position, the applicant may be contacted by HR Services to provide alternative names and contact details.
